RYA CEVNI Test

Code Européen des Voies de Navigation Intérieure (CEVNI) is the code governing navigation on the interconnected European inland waterways.  If you are looking to navigate on inland waters in Europe you will require an ICC with an CEVNI endorsement.  The CEVNI which checks your knowledge of the rules and signs that skippers of pleasure craft are expected to know and follow.

The RYA ICC CEVNI test is a multiple choice paper.  To study for the exam you will need to purchase the RYA publication G17 “RYA European waterways regulations (the CEVNI rules explained)” which provides the information you need to learn the code in a clear and concise way.  A sample test paper can be found at the back of the book.

IMPORTANT:  When applying for an ICC with the CEVNI endorsement this must be supported by an RYA Practical Certificate (e.g. RYA Day Skipper) or an ICC Practical Assessment.  You can not simply get an ICC by passing the CEVNI exam.

Pre-course Practical Requirements:Hold an ICC certificate (this course is the inland waterways endorsement to a currently held ICC)

Award:RYA CEVNI Certificate. You will then be able to submit this certificate to have the Inland Waterways endorsement applied to your current ICC.

The RYA G17 eBook RYA European Waterways Regulations is the RYA’s official title to support the CEVNI test to assist with the level of understanding needed to pass the test, which is a legal requirement (as well as carrying a CEVNI book on board) when using the European inland waterways.

Once you have passed the exam and obtained the CEVNI pass certificate you can then submit a new ICC form to request the Inland Waterway CEVNI endorsement is added to your current ICC.
